Dan Shikanda accused of meddling in FKF Nairobi East league affairs

A dispute has erupted within the FKF Nairobi East Branch, with officials accusing FKF Nairobi NEC Member Dan Shikanda of unlawfully interfering in league operations. The branch claims Shikanda issued directives altering team participation and referee appointments without authorisation, prompting a strong rebuttal and a legal threat if he fails to withdraw his orders.
A leadership wrangle has rocked the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Nairobi East Branch, with officials accusing FKF Nairobi NEC Member Dan Shikanda of overstepping his mandate by interfering in the branch’s league affairs.
Shikanda is alleged to have issued directives altering team participation, appointing referees, and restructuring the league without authorisation. The controversy stems from a letter he issued on 11 January 2025, which overturned decisions previously made by the FKF Nairobi East Branch.

In response, the branch held an executive meeting on 4 February 2025, where members strongly opposed Shikanda’s actions, terming them an abuse of authority. A follow-up memo dated 7 February 2025, addressed directly to Shikanda, referenced multiple sections of the FKF Constitution (2017) to reinforce their stance.
“The Nairobi East FKF Branch made directives regarding its subject league operations, which you have since illegally reversed or otherwise undermined via your letter dated 11 January 2025,” the memo stated.
The branch maintains that the National Executive Committee (NEC), of which Shikanda is a member, has only an oversight role in league management, while actual organisation falls under the League & Competitions Committee at the branch level.
They specifically cited Article 39 of the FKF Constitution, which outlines the NEC’s powers, and Article 48, which establishes the League & Competitions Committee as the sole body responsible for organising FKF leagues.
“Kindly be advised that Article 39 of the FKF Constitution, 2017, in clear and unequivocal terms, spells out the powers of the National Executive Committee, which you are a member of,” the memo reads in part.
The branch also condemned Shikanda’s attempt to appoint an individual to oversee referees, arguing that referee appointments are handled by an existing three-member panel at the branch level.
The FKF Nairobi East Branch has now given Shikanda seven days to withdraw the contested directives. Failure to comply, they warn, will result in legal action.
“Kindly note that if we do not receive any communication rescinding the said correspondence within the next seven (7) days from today’s date, we will have no option but to take appropriate legal action against you, at your risk as to costs and consequences thereof,” the memo warns.
The standoff now raises concerns over governance within FKF, with stakeholders keenly watching how the matter unfolds.
